In recent years the internet has been revolutionised by broadband technology. Whereas using a dial-up service was often slow, unreliable and frustrating to use, the improved services offered by DSL and Cable technology mean that the entire World Wide Web has been revolutionised. Before, only the truly masochistic would try to download or stream television programs and movies. The slow speed of a 56k modem would mean that even a twenty minute program could take a long time to use. And this was assuming that everything went to plan; a connection timeout, by no means uncommon when using a dial-up modem would often mean that you would have to start the tortuous process from scratch again.
Now however with high speed broadband, movies and shows can be streamed and downloaded to completion within minutes. And the technology does not just benefit casual users- businesses and organisations with high internet traffic have benefited immensely from the increased bandwidths and data transfer speeds that broadband offers.
For much of the United States however, the revolution has almost passed it by without touching it. They continue to use the same slow dial up modems and suffer the same frustrations and annoyances as always. But why is this? It’s mainly a question of geography.
Existing broadband technology is geared towards large urban areas and modern cities, with a high volume of potential users. DSL for example requires telephone lines fitted with special copper wiring to be installed by municipal authorities. No problem if you happen to live in a large city with millions of internet surfers, but a big issue if you live in a rural area with very low population density. Chances are, you won’t have access to this technology.
For those who suffer from this disadvantage, Satellite Internet could be the best option to enjoy the broadband revolution. It comes with one huge advantage for rural users; it is available all over the United States, with 99% of zip codes receiving the satellite signal. This means that no longer will broadband be confined to modern large cities- with satellite broadband everyone can experience high-speed internet. There is also no reason to lose out on cost or quality, as now both of these are almost on a par with DSL and Cable suppliers- of course, there is a massive improvement over your old 56k dial-up connection.
For many years rural inhabitants of the United States have had to accept inferior and quality and service when it comes to internet access, despite the fact that their remote location makes it more essential for them than anyone else that they stay connected and that their world becomes smaller. Finally, with the increasing popularity of satellite internet you can have the option to bring your internet connection into the twenty first century.
